About Us

Randolph McCormick Sr. founded Dixie Glass Company in 1946.  The McCormick family had been in the glass business for many years, so glass was nothing new to Randolph.  After moving to Opelousas, he opened his first of many glass shops.  They were humble beginnings.
As the business grew, he opened a glass fabrication plant.  At its peak, the plant provided glass for shops in eleven states on a daily basis.  This plant was one of the largest in the southern region of the United States, employing well over one hundred fifty people.  Randolph continued to open glass shops during this time, and  he eventually incorporated a realty business (McCormick Realty) to manage the properties.  Dixie Glass Company grew to forty-three stores, employing over five hundred people, and stretching across five states. These stores extended from Orange, Texas to Ft. Walton Beach, Florida.  Dixie Glass was also the top purchaser in the nation of Ford Motor Company windshields.  To this day, the McCormick family has provided glass service that is still unparalleled in the industry.
After selling the original forty-three glass businesses and glass fabrication plant, McCormick had further aspirations.  He had a vision about an abandoned lumber facility in the town of Port Barre, Louisiana.  His initial idea was to manufacture windshields in the facility, but the cost was high.  During this time, he was contacted and asked if he was interested in leasing some of the buildings for storage.  Without hesitation, McCormick began to lease the buildings.  As the warehouses began to fill, he saw the need for warehouse expansion.  This was the beginning of Dixie Storage, which extended throughout much of southern Louisiana.  Dixie Storage's expansions created an increase in the need for trucking, thus, Dixie One Trucking was born.  McCormick always altered his companies to fit the industry.
This was the beginning of the Dixie family of businesses still in action today.  These businesses include: McCormick Realty, Dixie Storage, A-Plus Glass, Dixie One Trucking, and Dixie Signs.  We are still a family owned business that provides service in many different industries.  We currently employ over fifty people around southern Louisiana and continue to bring our customers commendable service.
